I admit this isn’t my finest interview. It’s not even in the top 10, which isn’t really Mark Barak’s fault. It’s mine for not hitting on precisely what he was planning to discuss, which are the strategies the NBA takes to develop its brand internationally. Since there aren’t many stories published regarding the NBA’s efforts market itself globally, I thought it would be an interesting series to discuss with various NBA executives the ways in which the league carries out those marketing efforts around the world.

This is the first part of the series and it wasn’t originally intended to concentrate on one particular world region, although it sort of ended up being about China. There are many interviews to come through the next few months and I believe the first world region I’ll look at is South Africa, which will happen sometime in the next couple weeks.
